Welcome to the website of Cardiff Cyclists’ Touring Club (CTC). We are the local members’ group for Cardiff of Cycling UK, a UK-wide organisation that campaigns for cyclists’ rights and promotes cycling in a variety of forms – touring, leisure, commuting and family – with local groups in over 100 UK towns and cities. As a local group, we organise weekend and Wednesday evening cycle rides, and some social events too. Our rides are almost entirely on-road, using lanes, cyclepaths and quieter routes wherever possible. We ride at a steady-to-leisurely pace, with frequent regrouping-stops, and usually a café- or pub-stop en route. We are not a racing club. We do it not for the speed, but for the sheer pleasure, the countryside, the company, and the cafés (and the occasional cake).
You don’t have to be a member of Cycling UK to try out our rides, so why not come along and see if it’s for you. All rides are free. If after three rides you’re hooked, then you will be expected to join Cycling UK. Membership benefits and application details can be found on the Cycling UK website.
Rides will resume after the end of the firebreak, from Saturday 14 November 2020, and adhere to the 9 November, post-firebreak regulations.
Meet us on a Saturday morning for a chat, and bring a flask of coffee and some cake. We’ll be outside the Pedal Power Café (closed), off Dogo Street, Pontcanna, CF11 9JJ. Even though the café is closed, the surroundings are green, quiet and away from traffic, and so make a pleasant space for a socially-distanced chat. If you’d like to find out more about Cardiff CTC and Cycling UK, come and say ‘Hello’. We’ll be outside the café with our flasks from 10.00 a.m. on 3 October (rescheduled for 10 October), 14 November (rescheduled from 7 November) and 5 December, and will head off on an easy-paced ride (optional) around the lanes at 10.30 a.m. The ride will be about 25 to 30 miles and be at an easy pace so that we can ride together. We’ll be back in Cardiff approximately by 3.30 p.m. The rides will be on road and, getting out of Cardiff, they can be busy, so if you aren’t comfortable about cycling in traffic or have any other questions, come and have a coffee and a chat. Any questions please get in touch with the leader listed for the ride on the Weekend rides page. Please bring a mask to wear when we’re chatting, not for the actual cycling.
We hope you enjoy our website, and we look forward to seeing you out on a ride or at one of our events soon.
